New Life Once More

My big news for the month of Janurary is that great-grandchild #2 has arrived. His name is Elijah Jay Garland and he was born January 12, 2008. Welcome baby boy. Terrific! I have one great-grandchild of each flavor now. Sophie, May 5, 2007, and Elijah. Sophie will be surrounded by little boys. She's going to have to toughen up so she can lead the pack. Unfortunately for me, I haven't been able to go get acquainted with Elijah because I've been sick for the past 3 weeks. Yuck. But I'm working on getting well. ITM, here's a few pictures of the little guy, his parental unit and assorted aunts/uncles. Plus cousin Sophie.

I had a cold back early in December. While it was no fun, I was glad it came early enough that I'd be well at Christmas. That worked OK. Right around New Year's, I started coughing. And coughing and coughing and...... You get the picture. I would cough till I gagged. Couldn't breath and had dry heaves.
I finally went to the Dr. Jan 14, He gave it some long name and said it was a disease rather than an infection. Meaning antibiotics wouldn't do any good. I got an Albuterol inhaler, Prednisone, cough syrup with codeine and a cool mist humidifier. I had to get a 2nd round of the syrup this past Friday. I was beginning to wonder if I was going to be sick the rest of my life. Dr. Mac said I didn't have bronchitis or pneumonia. Or whooping cough. Apparently, this last is making a comeback in the world. Sheesh. My lungs were surprisingly clear.
After a week of being on all this stuff and hacking my brains out, it seemed, last night, that my cough was different. Not so violent. Even tho my voice sounds like I swallowed ground glass, I do feel much better today. Hooray! And I look up to find that January is 2/3 gone already. Good grief!
Enough whining. One thing I've done a lot of since I couldn't go anywhere to visit was knitting. I've made several dish cloths with cute patterns. Before Christmas, I made a couple of the 100% wool helmet liners to be sent to the soldiers in Iraq/Afghanistan, etc. http://www.geocities.com/helmetliner/ People don't think it gets cold there but they do have mountains and it snows. Plus deserts can get chilly at night. I like the liners so much, that I made a blue one for me. And I wore it yesterday when I had to go out in the bitter cold. My granddaughter said I looked like I was going to rob a bank but I didn't care. My ears, nose and throat were protected from the cold.

I'm also knitting up a pair of fingerless gloves. Mainly to practice a new method of circular knitting that I just learned about. Instead of using 4 double pointed needles, you use 2 circular ones. It took me awhile to catch onto the method. I was too full of drugs to comprehend. Now, I've got it and I'm thrilled to learn this method. There's a hat I wanted to make for Cassie but it starts out with 8 stitches divided over 3 needles. I just couldn't connect the circle and a needle would fall out to make it more frustrating. Sheesh. Next, I want to learn the Magic Loop method but that will have to wait till I can get a 40" cable.
That's about enough of my rambling for today. I need to kick myself and write more often rather than be so long winded when I do write. However, I don't think I know how to write short stuff. My fingers just take over and control the keyboard.

Such a cute family you have!

You don't need 40" circulars to do the Magic Loop method, just try it with the longest circulars you have. Didn't you get a set with interchangeable tips?

Great work on the liners! They really can use those, or so my husband's cousin says and he should know--he spent a year there. Thanks for dropping by my blog!

And I was sick watching Mansfield Park, but apparently, Davies didn't write the script (as he did on P&P) but still . . . harrumph!@
