New Year's Ramblings

Where has the decade gone? Remember the millennium flap? Who can forget that? I always wonder at end of the world people who gather together to await the end. When it doesn't come, how do they feel? What do they do next? Find another guru? They really are sort of pitiful. They waste so much time and energy on waiting when they could have been living their lives to the fullest right up to the last moment.

I did title this blog "ramblings", didn't I? And so it is. Odd stuff that gets stuck in the corners of my brain and refuse to make room for anything important. Such as trying to balance my checkbook or where did I leave the car keys? In my case, it's often where did I leave my bra. This isn't nearly as sexy as it sounds. I just have a tendency to rip that sucker off anywhere in the house and fling it as far as I can. I hate bras and never wear one at home.

It's been an eventful year in my extended family. My oldest grandson, 27 year-old Michael, got married in July. He and his wife, Jess, are expecting a New Year's baby Jan 9. Or sooner. But it will definitely be a 2008 baby as I haven't heard anything to the contrary.

Also in 2007, my 13th grandchild was born. Brady Robert put in an appearnce on November 1. Just in time for his parental unit's 5th anniversary. He's now 2 months old and I am madly in love with him. He smiled at me Sunday night. How can a body resist that.

A first for me. Great-grandchild #1. Miss Sophie Brielle came to join the family on May 5. She is crawling now and doing any number of adorable things that only babies can do. I don't believe her knees hit the floor on Christmas day. She was passed from one person to another just as Brady was. Her poor daddy spent half his time trying to find out where his daughter was. I told him it's a family tradition that babies get handed around like a football at family gatherings. Brady's mom is used to it and was happy to have others take care of him for awhile. Mom and Daddy are very, very tired. A full nights sleep is their main New Year's wish.

And I got another year older in November. Which is a very good thing when you consider the alternative. Not for me the moaning and groaning about getting old. Well, not much anyway. I could do without the aches and pains. I see people falling on their knees and cringe. I also envy them not having to think about will that hurt or can they get up again. But I am eternally grateful that the total knee replacement surgery was available when I needed it. I didn't think I'd ever be able to walk very far without pain again. Now I can do that and stand for longer than 30 seconds at a time. Hooray!

Early December was a pretty wintery time. Snow, cold temps, etc. Then, it got milder before Christmas day. After a hosing down rain 2 days before Christmas, the day turned out mild and clear. Just right for the Christmas football game the guys like to play. The teams are most of the guys and Olivia. From 3 year-old Austin to 50+ Jim. You'll notice that one of the players is wearing a fur coat. That would be Merlin the Collie. I don't know if he made any big plays or not, but he had a lot of fun.

Finally, there were my fairy girls. Just a few months apart in age, they live on opposite coasts. But they have a wondful time when they do get together. They tend to dress in pink at the moment. I think that is the color of choice for all small girls. If the new baby is a boy, Sophie will have to learn how to keep them in line.
