Another Year Gone

The older I get, the faster the years seem to fly by.  I remember when I was a kid, how summer always appeared endless at the beginning of June.  Now, I stand at June 1 and see the glimmer of autumn leaves in the near future.  How perverse human nature is.

And I, apparently, am not a faithful blogger. It's not like nothing ever happens in my life. It just doesn't happen on a frequent basis anymore.  I can for for days without leaving the house.  If my digital clocks and computer didn't tell me what day it was, I might never know.  Yesterday, for instance, seemed like Sunday all day to me.  I don't know why.  I was aware the day before it was Sunday.  Why would I have 2 Sundays in a row?  Oh well.

I have been knitting hats like an obsessed person the past few months.  Oh wait.  I am an obsessed person.  I must have 2 dozen hats in various styles and colors lying around.  I've been trying to make enough watch cap styles in Philadelphia Eagles colors for the fans in my extended family.  I think I do but will have to check.  There's also a few crocheted watch hats but not in green/black/white of the Eagles.

Now, I'm trying my hand at slouchys.  I love the way they look and the grandgirls are clamoring for them.  Plus a daughter-in-law.

So, I sit, knit and either read books on the computer or listen to them via Audible.com. My knitting is fairly basic, so it is possible for me to read and knit at the same time. Of course, I have to check once in awhile to be sure I have things going the way they're supposed to. Friday, I washed my hair and realized I needed to run to Walmart. Since it was cold & windy, I slapped a new hat on my head and was instantly war.  Here is a picture of it.  It doesn't show up well, but it's a navy blue wool. I love wool..

I know I wrote about our new baby who was born in May. Esther Joy is her name and she is precious. She'll be 6 months old tomorrow.  Our other little ones are of the age where Christmas has become a big, exciting deal. Especially 3 1/2 year old Sophie.  She wasn't a bit afraid of Santa when she sat in his lap. Since she is quite the talker, I'm sure she told him exactly what she expects from him. She can be a bit bossy.  lol

Not ending the year on a good note for our family. Last  year, my sweet daughter-in-law, Lisa had chemo and radiation treatments for breast cancer.  Then, she was fine. Her hair grew back curly. She went back to work and was feeling good. This summer, she was a whirlwind on family vacation. In November, she developed a rash on her chest and was told by her family doctor that she had shingles.I guess he never thought to send her back to the oncologist. Duh!  It wasn't shingles. A couple of weeks ago, tests were run and the cancer has metastasized throughout her body. We are all devastated.  But we are rallying around her and DH Jim. She is taking a different chemo treatment and is applying to get into an experimental program of some sort. My heart is bleeding.  If you pray, please do so for her. Otherwise, just hold some good thoughts.

Now, it's almost Christmas again.  My contribution to the meal will be a baked sweet potato dish and, possibly, my  mother's pecan pie recipe. Unfortunately, I have to go out in the cold and hit the grocery store for a few ingredients.  Thankfully, I don't need to buy pecans as I already have some. Nuts are so expensive.  Makes me with I had a pecan tree out back.

Great to see you blogging, Margaret! OK, so what's a slouchy?
