January 28, 2007

The holidays have slipped away and become last year. Now, January is almost history. Time flies whether you're having fun or not!

This is the year I become a great-grandmother. I'm not ready. As it was when I became a grandmother, nobody asked me if I wanted to be one. Of course, I wouldn't trade a single one of those 12 for any year of not being a grandmother. Each one added a lovely new dimension to my life.

The new baby is a girl. That's nice to know. Maybe it will kick start me into dusting off the sewing machine and seeing if I remember how to make baby things. I have several quilt tops pieced. They were done with new babies in mind. All I need to do is whip up a backing and ship one off to my good friend Bonnie down in South Carolina. http://www.quiltivlle.com She has a wonderful floor model quilt frame and does fabulous work. No hand quilting allowed on my baby quilts! I want the critters to enjoy their blankies right down to the last dirty bits of them.

After a very mild winter so far, we have been hit with some bitter cold. The pipes under my kitchen sink froze the other night because I forgot to leave a faucet dripping and the doors beneath the sink open. Duh! I could get cold water all day Thursday but no hot. It finally came back in the night between Thursday and Friday. Darn. That meant I had to wash dishes.

One of the best things about these cold days is being able to curl up with one of the books I received from Amazon.com http://www.amazon.com by using my Christmas gift certificates. Love those things. 3 different families gave them to me this year. They added up nicely and I will be receiving as yet unreleased books till the middle of April. I wish the other family members would do the same thing if they want to give me something. I don't need any more dust catchers in my life. I'm trying to get rid of some of it what I already have. I know this sounds ungrateful but I don't really require a gift. For me, the very best thing about Christmas is the family all getting together. I love the conversation, food, noise, kids running wild, etc. Music to my ears and heart.
