It's nearly the middle of February and we are just now getting our first forecast of some real snow. By "real", I mean anything over 1". The iffy forecast today is for 6+" from Tuesday into Wednesday. We'll see. I have my snow shovel and Quick Joe ice melt at the ready.
My big excitement for the week, indeed the year, is I got a new-to-me car on Friday, February 9, 2007. I took my 1989 Blazer in to see what it would cost to have the heater fixed. This is NOT a good time of year for one's car heater to go out. I had to drive down to BWI on Monday, Feb. 5, late at night, to pick up Shannon. Just south of York, I realized the heater wasn't working. Or just barely, if it was. Since this was during the brutally cold period of that time, I sort of worried about hypothermia. Fortunately, I had a big old comforter in the way back. I don't think it's been out of the car in 4 years. I carry it around to use when I attend kid's outdoor sports and forget to take it out for a wash in between seasons. It came in handy for Shannon that night, for sure. Since she'd been flying and/or layovering all day, she just wrapped up in the old thing and slept most of the way back. We made it home OK but I decided enough was enough.
The upshot was that so many things were wrong with the Blazer (vintage 1989) that it really wasn't worth putting any more money into it. Since I have limited funds and don't buy things on credit, I had a cap on what I could spend. I found a lovely Plymouth Breeze 4-door sedan. Since my last two vehicles were a Plymouth Voyager minivan and the aforementioned Blazer, I was hestitant to go back into a sedan. After a test drive, I was won over. And the heater worked like a champ! Yes, I did try out the a/c and it worked fine also.

By 5pm, I was the proud owner of a 1999 Plymouth Breeze 4-door sedan! Works for me. I had done some research beforehand, had experience with a Plymouth and loved it.

Now, I just need to get used to the fact that the gear shift is on the floor. I keep turning on the windshield washer. LOL Speaking of wash, I sat in a long line at Cloister's Car Wash yesterday. It went pretty fast as they had 4 lanes to pay and kept everyone moving right along. It fell good to get the dust off it.
And there's all sorts of digital stuff on the dashboard. The only down thing is the FM part of the radio doesn't work but I can get that fixed fairly reasonably. I may have the radio replace with a radio/CD player combo. I have to check them out first. I did see that satellite radio seems to be what is being pushed in car radios now. I'm not sure I want a subscription deal.
My other big purchase of the weekend was a new chair for the computer. The one I am currently using has one broken wheel and sort of lists to port. Or starboard if the leg is in that direction. My daughter is putting the new chair together for me as I can't get down on the floor anymore. Well, I can get down there but it's the getting up again that's the problem. I love my new knees but am still not comfortable with kneeling on them. This too shall pass I'm sure.
