Another Storm On The Way

Curses!!! Snow is back in the forecast. 3-6" of it. And it will be of the wet & heavy variety this time. Cold from Canada and moisture from the Gulf of Mexico. I guess it's sort of a nor'ester but I haven't heard anyone say so. It's hard to believe the temp was a bit over 70F yesterday. Short sleeved weather. It was a glorious day. Today looks more like February at it's dreariest.

However, I've had my ray of sunshine today. I got my Breeze back! Hooray, hooray! I called yesterday to see when I might get it. Was told that they discovered a water pump leak after they got the new head gaskets on and the car was almost ready to go. I now have a new water pump. So glad the cost is not coming out of my pocket for these things.I was so used to driving the little Cavalier, that it took me a bit of time to get re-used to the Breeze. I sure missed those electric windows and door locks. So I'm spoiled. So what? Before I went over to Mt. Joy, I decided that I was going to take a run up north of Lititz to:

Weaver's Dry Goods
108 W. Brubaker Valley Rd
Lititz, PA 17543-9401
(717)-627-1724

I can't remember the last time I was there. About 5 years, I think. They have changed the front part of the store to a Colonial country type gift shop. I'm not sure how to describe it. Sort of the Williamsburg look. Very popular here in the Mid-Atlantic area. Depressing to me when over done. It is nice to walk into the lovely scented candles and potpourri smells. If any of you have ever been out there, you used to walk into more of a Mennonite/Amish type store at the front. A hodge podge of stuff. The last time I was there, they had just finished re-doing the fabric/pattern areas. Very well lit now. TG! I just found out that the store was bought recently by:

Dutchland Quilt Patch
2851 A Lincoln Hwy. East
Ronks, PA 17522
(717)687-0534

I mainly went because I needed a new Olfa blade. I have no idea how old this one is but I haven't sewn much in recent years. So, it's pretty old. Yesterday, it was annoying me by skipping the cutting of some areas. I found a nice piece of tan fabric that will make a nice neutral for a quilt top I'm obsessed with right now. I may used the back to make it more of a contrast to the darks. I also scored 3 FQs. Dark blues. My color palette is mostly middle of the color charts. I can't afford to remedy that all at once but I can pick up a piece of very dark now and again. That's what I'm mostly missing.

There was almost 8 yds of the tan fabric on the bolt. It was $4.50 per yard. So, I took all of it. It's the sort of fabric that you can always use in something. It feels good to be piecing again. I do sort of feel like a newbie at it. For crying out loud, I can't remember how wide to cut the strips for binding on the baby quilt. 3"? Good thing I have some reference books available. BTW, the whirligig baby quilt is now in Bonnie's capable hands. Whirligig is the name of the pattern. I'm thinking of calling the quilt "Rainy Day Baby". Or not. I really like that umbrellas print I ordered from:

Big Horn Quilts
529 Greybull Avenue, PO Box 566
Greybull WY 82426
1-877-586-9150

.Which reminds me. I ordered the neatest little thread cutter from Big Horn Quilts. It has an heirloom look and can be hung around your neck for easy reach. I need a ribbon but do you think I even once thought of it while I was at Weaver's? Grrr You don't even have to look where you are cutting. Just take a swipe at the general area and, snip, it's done. I think this may become one of my favorite sewing tools. Along with my surgical steel seam ripper. I love that thing and should order another 1 or 2 just in case I misplace this one. You know how that goes.
