So There I Sat

At a Spring league semi-pro football game. After missing Shannon's first time with the Atlantic Coast Patriots dancers earlier in March because of Kimberly shower and missing the second home game because the snow of St. Patrick's Day cancelled it, I finally attended a game yesterday. In a chilly rain. After an almost flawless week of weather, Mother Nature had her April Fool's joke yesterday. Rain was in the forecast. Not enough rain so that Shannon knew whether they would perform or not. But enough to make a person think.

Phyllis and Olivia were still down in VA and didn't expect to be here for the game. Shannon was surprised that I was going. I don't know why. I told her I was. The rain started when I was about halfway to Hershey. The games are held in Hershey Stadium. The rain was of the off and on variety. I paid for my ticket and Shannon met me at the gate. The girls were warming up under the seating area and she saw me as I was walking up to the gate.
I have been to enough outdoor games of Olivia's to know that a sweat jacket would not be nearly enough covering. I think there must be some sort of law that ball fields must be either 20 degrees colder or hotter, depending on the season, than the surrounding countryside. I had on my regular short-sleeved shirt and the sweat jacket on my drive up. When I got out of the car, I put on my stadium jacket. In my tote, I carried a rain poncho. I didn't carry an umbrella because I don't own one. They are a pain in the neck as far as I'm concerned. Oh yes. I had on 2 pairs of pants and 2 pairs of socks. I was ready for anything. LOL It was all needed. The rain was never heavy. Just of the light, steady variety beginning a bit before game time.

Luckily, the rain stopped just before halftime. The girls do a dance routine between 1st-2nd and 3rd-4th quarters. Then, they do a pretty cute dance routine at halftime. The other team had a player injured on the last play before the whistle. So, the girls couldn't go out on the field till he was able to leave on his on power or be carried off. Fortunately, he was finally able to stand and walk off.

By the 4th quarter, the sun was trying to break thru the clouds but having no luck. But the rain didn't start up again. Hooray. The final score was us - 3, them - 0. A hard fought game with the field goal coming in the last minute of the game.

After the game, Shannon and I had lunch at Red Robin. I don't think I've been to Hershey in years. My how things have changed around the theme park, museum and stadium area. Since I was last there, they have built a new ice arena for the hockey team. Closed some roads, made some one way. I had to drive a mile around on a circle from where I went in just to get to the stadium. Sheesh. Very confusing when I used to know how to get to Hershey Park and Chocolate World in my sleep. The new routing makes sense but you sure have to pay attention the signs pointing you this way and that. So, I got home in time to watch the bull riders last night. A perfect day, IMHO. 2 violent sports on view.

Today, I sewed a bit. One of the things I did was so a laundry care label to the baby quilt. Then, I ripped it off because I didn't like the look of it. Oh well. Kim knows what to do anyway. I have 2 halves of the Strip Twist all put together and ready to be sewn into one big unit. I realized I don't have a fabric that I want to make an inner border. I may have to go shopping out in Amish country tomorrow. Don't you feel sorry for me? The quilter's will be there in 2 weeks for QHC so I'd best hot foot it out there now before the pickings get slim.

BTW, the sun is shining brightly today. Mother Nature is wicked
