Finally Autumn

The awful heat of the past week is gone. Along with it's humidity. TG! It began to rain Wednesday nite. Not steady but heavy at times. This issued in the beginning of cooler temps. I finally dragged my carcass over to the furnace and lit the pilot light yesterday afternoon. I had put it of as long as I could. This morning, I was mighty glad that I had done the deed as it had gotten pretty windy during the night. And the wind is still howling outside. Tuesday, the high was 89F. Yesterday, it never hit 70F. Today, at 2pm, the temp is 59F. No telling what the wind chill index is. I am content with cooler weather.

I went to Walmart yesterday and bought myself a shop vac. I had one years ago but sold in the garage sale when I was readying to move here. It was huge and in fairly sad shape. I really didn't have any place to stash it here. I found a small one at Walmart. Perfect for my needs and I can store it in the sewing room closet. I went around getting cobwebs down from high corners and black dog hair from spots where the vacuum doesn't reach. It's small, but mighty and it wasn't very expensive. Phyllis has a larger one but it's a pain to get over here. I could barely lift it in and out of the Blazer. And I hate to ask her to bring it. Her plate is full enough as it is. This works much better. I can haul the thing out on a moment's notice and not sit around wondering when/how to get hers.

We are not having much color this fall. I figured it had something to do with the dry summer. Sure enough, I was right. The news guy was talking about this the other night. Longer warm temps and not much rain have combined to do in the pretty colors. Mostly, the leaves are just turning brown on the trees and falling from there to be raked up. Oh well. Maybe next year.

Oh yes. I did one productive thing today. I called AAA and signed up for the Over 55 driving course. My insurance agent recommended it as it will reduce my rate 5% per year for 3 years. Every little bit helps. Apparently there is no driving involved. It's an 8 hour course held on 2 Saturday. Written work and videos are involved. Hmm. How does this help to make me a better driver? Mighty peculiar if you ask me
