Broken Rib Sock

Here is my first sock that I'm not embarassed to show anyone. The first sock looked and fit like it was made for a tall person with teeny feet. I used the same pattern of Broken Rib Sock that I found in "101 Designer One-Skein Wonders" by Judith Durant.

Instead of the Cascade 220 I had before, I used Modea Dea Sassy Stripes. Swish is the color. 100% acrylic. They'll still keep my feet warm in bed on a cold winter's night. I added a couple of inches to that given for my size foot and it fits just fine now. I love how the stripes look like I did it myself. Of course, I'm holding out no hope that the 2nd sock with match it row for row. I don't care. I made a sock, by golly!

I've already cast on and knit a couple of rows to start the other sock. Since I can't use dp needles and wouldn't if I could, I made this sock by the Magic Loop method created by Bev Galeskas with Sarah Hauschka. http://www.knitpicks.com/The+Magic+Loop_BD30340.html I recently got a 60" Addi Turbo size 5 needle and this is what I used. The pattern called for that size and I got the gauge. I love this method. Once you understand it and master it, it's very soothing to do. So is the 2 circular needle method but I think this is my favorite. I did have to do some fiddling after I did the heel to get both ends going the right way for knitting. I finally got it, however.

The hand of the yarn feels good and I have never expected that in an acrylic. I guess things have really improved in the years when I wasn't knitting. I carry it with me everywhere. I got quite a bit done on this sock while sitting at a rugby tournament last Saturday. My photography stinks, however. The blue is more a med-dark blue. In fact, the colors are all darker than shown in my picture. I need to set up a place where I can take a decent shot.

Lovely sock, those self striping yarns are such fun. I was knitting yesterday also, I worked on my second sock for awhile then went back to the sweater.

I just took a book back to the library where you knit 2 socks on one magic loop. Other than a quick peruse of the pictures I didn't spend much time with it. I'm sure once you figure out how to do the cast on it would be a breeze and then you wouldn't get caught in the second sock syndrome.

That is a great sock. Should be perfect. I personally like my dpns. I've done magic loop, but somehow I don't get the same sort of rhythm with the knitting. Each to their own. And yes, I did like Toe Up. The socks seemed to go faster, and a sewn off cast off works really nice at the cuff to give it good stretch.
