October Already?

That's OK. September seemed endless for some reason. And it wasn't even a 31 day month. But some months just get that way sometimes. It depends on what's going on in one's life, I suppose. The only big thing that happened all month was the picnic over in Mountville. Pictures in previous post.

I've sort of laid low and have been knitting like a maniac since then. I have 2 scarves in progress. I thought knitting an afghan was an endless project. Now I discover that scarves are also. I gave Jess her fingerless mittens when we were at the picnic. I had enough yarn left that I decided to make a scarf to go with them. Naturally, I didn't have enough yarn to complete it and had to order 2 more skeins. If I'd followed the original instructions and worked on only 20 stitches, I might have gotten away with 1 1/2 skeins. But I wanted it to be wider in order to showcase the pattern. So, I doubled the width. I like it and the fact that the pattern is worked every 4th row. The other 3 rows are Knit.
I have about 45" done on it. Much more than shown here in the picture.

Before I started on Jess's scarf, I found a neat scarf over at the Lion Brand Yarn web site. It's called "The Road Scarf" and is really just a sampler scarf. They show it in a caramel color. I would have gone nuts with that. I had a lovely skein of Paton's Classic Wool. It a yummy variegated raspberry called "Rosewood". With the constant changes in stitches and colors, it's looking very nice. I wanted to give it to Shannon for her birthday on October 21. I'm not sure I'll get it done by then. I did put Jess's aside and am working like mad on it. We'll see. If I don't get it done by then, Christmas is right around the corner. I have about 40" done on it.

Olivia's foot is still not healed to the surgeon's satisfaction. She is totally bummed as it's putting a crimp in her sports play. The junior/senior girls started practice for the annual Hempfield High School Powder Puff football game. She isn't able to practice. Also, she has a softball game this coming weekend and her first cheerleading competition for the year is Oct. 12. It's been 2 months since the surgery. I don't know what the surgeon's beef is. I have a feeling she'll go ahead and play anyway.

Shannon started back to school just before Labor Day. She is going to Steven's 3 days a week. I'm glad she went back and didn't just keep putting it off. Last I heard, she wants to major in respiratory therapy. That sounds like a good thing. I would think a person could get a job just about anywhere with a skill like that.

I see where you've been hiding, you've been knitting and re-doing your blog. Very nice on both accounts.
