Summer's Here & School Is Out

Well, school will be out in a couple of days and early summer is definitely here in the warmer days. Also, the summer storms that manage to mess up everyone's weekend plans.

Things quieted down for awhile after the rash of May birthdays. Rugby season wound it way to the end with a couple of sevens games. The awards picnic was grand and the food was delicious. Again, the storms messed up a part of that day and the girls's game was cancelled. Oh well.

Now, I am switching sports hat and tournament fast-pitch softball season has begun. Olivia's first tournament was this past weekend at Bob Hoffman field in York, PA. What a weekend. Tournaments are long by their very nature. Saturday is seeding games day. Sunday is tournament day. Mostly single eliminations. TG

Olivia's team, the Razorbacks, had just ended the 6th inning Saturday morning, when it started sprinkling and thunder/lightning began.
Then, it was hosing down and people were running for shelter. It was soon apparent that the games would not go on that day. Even if it had quit raining (which it didn't all day) the field were too wet and too dangerous for play. So, the powers that be had to re-vamp the schedule. The rest of the seeding games were played early Sunday morning. They were pared down to 1 hour of play and ties stood as a loss. So, that got everyone to the Sunday play just a few hours late. If you're going to play tournament, you have to roll with the punches as the weather is always a factor to be considered.

For the Razorbacks, it was a happy day. They won the tournament in a clean sweep. They won all 3 seed matches and all 3 tournament games. The last game was the nail biter of the day. It came down to the last pitch & last strike out. People were standing, the girls on the bench were clinging to the chain link fence and encouraging their players to greater heights. Whew! No pro game was ever more hard fought, jubilantly celebrated or bitterly mourned. I love kid's sports. They really, really care about the outcome.
